On Thursday I went to the Bronze Studio in Tacoma with one of the other teacher's sculpture class. We don't get paid unless we are actually in front of the students, so it was either go on the field trip or mess up the other teachers plans, or go along. Fortunatly, I wanted to go along so that made it easier.

The owner of the studio is Jeff Oens who turned out to be really cute (and unless my gaydar was seriously misfiring, he thought I was pretty cute too...) His work is incredible (the stuff on the website is cooler in person, and the stuff that is not on the website is astounding) as is the work of the other artists who's work was displayed in the gallery.

We watched a pour and then did a tour of each step of the process of casting bronze sculptures. It was really very cool. I wanted to take sculpture classes by the end of it. I couldn't really tell if the students enjoyed it or not. Most of them were half asleep (the tour was at 11:00-am ... a lot is explained about their attendance to 8:00-am classes...), but a few asked questions and seemed interested. They can be so jaded and cynical that it is hard to tell when something has reached them.

I had a great time though.

This weekend was Puddletown's annual Fly-in. For those of you not familiar with Square dancing events, a Fly-in is a weekend long event with national callers and dancers attend from all over the region (and all over the country for some of the bigger fly-ins). Different clubs do things slightly differently, but most include a trail-in dance on Friday night, dancing including workshops all day Saturday, food and the big dance event on Saturday evening, then more dancing on Sunday. At all the Northwest clubs up and coming callers are mixed in with the headliners during the Sunday dance.

All in all, it was a really fun weekend, and everyone seemed to have a really great time.

ps. The theme, like many Puddletown flyin themes, only sounds (or in the case of the geoduck themes, looks) a little on the lascivious side...it is actually from the title of a song played on the Dr. Demento show, called "Wet Dream" by Kip Addotta and is a song about the singles scene under the sea and is basically one really bad pun after another.
