in all seriousness, IIRC, that version of Office isn't Intel native, (I'm assuming you're on an Intel machine) which will force Rosetta to be launched, which actually has different drawing routines.

Does this happen often? Does it happen outside of Office?

It's possible that the VRAM went bad, but that's rare.
