I navigate by landmark, so Tempe, and in fact, the entire Valley of the Sun, is really hard for me. I am lost pretty much from the time we turn out of the driveway or leave downtown Tempe. One place I do recognize (usually) is a Michael's crafts that is about a mile from Ron's childhood home, mainly because we walked there once a few years ago so it is much more grounded in reality than the rest of the ever changing kaleidoscope of stucco and tile.

Ron knows I love craft stores, so we stopped in and got a bunch of yarn for another project for Ron for only a dollar a skein, and got some good quality GE christmas lights for a huge discount, so that was fun.

We had lunch with Anne which was a lot of fun. Ron's mom was convinced we were going to spend the whole time talking about her, but we forgot to and talked about his other sister instead. Anne told funny stories about her kindergarten class and we talked a lot about money management and how hard it is when you only really have enough to get from month to month with a tiny bit left over.

After lunch we went back to her house and her oldest son was getting ready to go back to Tucson where he is about to graduate from college. And of course, he was wandering around with no shirt on. I kept having to remind myself "he is practically your nephew, don't look!"

For dinner we went to an Italian Restaurant that Anne recommended. I think it was called Tutti Santi. It was very good. Ron's mom kept asking us for updates on various family drama and medical problems that she assumed we had talked about with Anne. I kept wanting to say, "Uh, no, we laughed and had a good time, sorry to disappoint you."

Anyway, we are off to Palm Springs in the morning.

Next post from California!
